So, Thanksgiving day isn't the type of day for me that it is for everyone else. I didn't ask to spend it with anyone else, and no one asked me. I'm perfectly ok with this. I made myself a large dinner which I will be eating on for the next week, and I'm good with that. But the highlight of my day was watching a movie on Netflix. I found the movie The Skinny, which has Jussie Smollett in it. In case you didn't know, I have a major celebrity crush on him. The movie is great. He plays a guy named Magnus who's reuniting with college friends for New York's Gay Pride event. He's dating a guy named Ryan. His friends are Langston (lesbian), Sebastian (the innocent virgin), Joey (the gay sarcastic bitch that you end up loving anyway for his flaws), and Kyle (the ho). Sebastian is in love with Kyle and saving himself. Langston is many things, gorgeous, a med student with rich parents, and very sure of what he wants. Also, Ryan isn't what he seems, and the friends find him on a dating site. He's actually a porn star and has shot scenes in Magnus' aparentment. Fucked up, right? It gets dramatic. Let me shorten this up, Kyle is the biggest jerk on the planet, Sebastian is too damn sweet for his own good, and Langston is a lot like me, except he's rich and I'm definitely not. Langston and Sebastian are the two that go through the most pain to me. Langston and Joey are just insecure. Sebastian is in love with Kyle, who is, in my terms, an asshole of the worst kind. He plays with Sebastian but doesn't seem to understand what he's doing to the guy. Comes to a head when they take a pill in the club and Kyle leaves the very innocent Sebastian alone, where he is then date raped by two other guys. That part, by the way, breaks my heart.
But it's the ending that really stuck with me. Kyle leaves early (guilt ridden but i still think he's an ass) and on the way out to the taxi to take the friends to the airport, Magnus and Sebastian have a conversation, since Magnus is the one to come help Sebastian after the date rape incident. Sebastian is a strong one (seriously love this character so hard) and he tells Magnus a line that I've heard a lot and it just sticks in my spirit. He tells him "Don't settle for anything or anyone." He's referring to Ryan, but those words really stick with me because it's been a lesson I've had to learn the hard way too. Don't settle for a person that constantly hurts you thinking that you won't find anyone better, or won't find anyone that doesn't do those things. Don't settle for the person that's making themselves available just because no one else immediately steps up. Don't settle for work you hate, don't settle for mistreatment. Just don't settle. That one line won me over more than anything in the movie (It is a great movie and i loved all of it, I'm just saying that line is what I take away from it).
Now that I've been all philosophical for a minute, let's talk about what you know me for, the books. Starting with the Coven's second book. Allow me to just say, right now, I'm having issues with Dion and Talis. Not in getting the story written. No, I mean that they are emotional as fuck. I knew Dion had some insecurities, being the formerly straight guy who's gay for Talis only. yeah, he has some issues. He's going to question if he does things right and if Talis really wants him. But Talis has a shit ton of insecurity I didn't expect to be revealed. Add to that the drama of Dion having trouble controlling his incubus nature and Talis having issues with his fey side, along with a demon going after children and you have the fun stuff that is my life writing the second book.
Journeys, is a lot. Can't go into too much detail but let's just say Landon's life is exceptionally difficult for no real reason other than that he is a reincarnated fey warrior with unbelievable power and a whole lot of enemies. Guy can't catch a break from tragedy. Reminds me, yes, I'm working to get the first book out, but look for it in January (I hope).
Can't forget The Dragon's Secrets, the next book in the original series, the Dragon Hunters. That's how most of you probably got hooked on me. I know what's going on with it. It's just a lot to write to cover the big parts of Andreas' history that haven't been covered. He might not be finished til later next year. Which sucks because the next book after his is hammering away at my head. The next book, in case you didn't know, will be titled Adonis. Yes, Adonis has more to tell. And boy oh boy will that one be a roller coaster. I'd apologize, but blame the characters for that. Adonis, Brandon, and Phil went their own way in the second book instead of the way they were supposed to go. Let's just say all of that will really get wrapped up in the Adonis book.
Also, if you have not checked out my story for the MM Romance Group on Goodreads, please do, and leave a review for me. I need more reviews (actual review, not just ratings). Link below
